ARLINGTON, Texas - In a rematch with North Texas on Wednesday UT Arlington softball fell 6-3. Junior Katie Jones led the Mavs going 2-for-4 with two runs scored as the Mavs dropped to 31-14 on the season.
The Mean Green jumped on the board with three runs in the first inning. Katya Muller stole home for the first run of the game and Susan Waters scored on an error for the two-run advantage. Christen Jonse added run number three on single to right center from Kadie Platt.
In the bottom of the third inning center fielder April Clougherty hit a single to score Brittany Washington and Katie Jones who both singled to start the inning and cut North Texas lead to one.
In the top of the fifth, Lauren Bergstrom added a run for UNT off a single to left field Monica Garcia. Junior Laura Jones came in to relieve freshman Cara Hulme and struck out the next three batters to halt the Mean Green threat.
Katie Jones started the home half of the inning with a single to center field and scored on single to the same spot from first baseman Dee Jay Nelson.
North Texas extended its lead to three (6-3) with two runs in the top of the seventh. Laura Jones struck out two and forced Waters to fly out to end the inning.
Hulme took the loss for UTA giving up four runs on five hits in four innings on the mound. Kristina Fowler recorded the win for North Texas giving up only one run on four hits in 4.2 innings of work.
The Mavs return to Southland Conference action on Saturday when they travel to Conway, Ark. for a three game series with conference newcomer Central Arkansas. The series will kick-off with the first game of a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
