HUNTSVILLE, Texas - UT Arlington dropped a 5-1 decision to Texas State in game five of the Southland Conference Tournament. A Three-run second inning lifted the Bobcats over the Mavs giving both teams one loss in the double-elimination tournament.
Freshman Heather Fortenberry took the loss for the Mavs giving up five runs, two earned on five hits with four walks and one strikeout in five innings on the mound. Ragan Blake improved her record to 24-14 with the win, giving up one earned run on five hits while striking out seven.
Texas State jumped on the board in the bottom of the second inning scoring three runs on a pair of errors by UTA.
Dee Jay Nelson hit her 14th home run of the season, in the top of the fifth, to cut the Bobcats lead to two (3-1). But, Texas State answered in the bottom half of the inning with two runs off a triple from Alex Newton.
The Mavs move into the loser's bracket where they will face the loser of game six between No. 2 Sam Houston State and No. 4 UT San Antonio at 4 p.m.
