Natchitoches, La. - Amanda Swofford's second home run of the day capped a five-run fourth inning while Cara Hulme pitched 4.2 shutout innings to secure the 10-2 win for UT Arlington over Northwestern State and the complete SLC series sweep on Sunday.
The win improves the Mavericks record to 10-11 overall and 7-5 in the Southland Conference, while the Demons fall to 5-22 and 1-11.
Swofford put the Mavericks on the board to start the game in the first with her first home run of the day. Brittany Washington reached first with a single to center and advance to second when Rebecca Collom drew the walk to set up the 3 RBI blast from Swofford.
In the second inning, Hulme hit a shot over the center field fence to score Swofford who singled to center, giving UTA the 5-0 advantage.
Amanda Brown doubled to lead off the inning and Kristin Moore advanced her to third with the sacrifice bunt. Katie Jones reached on an error and then stole second to put two runners in scoring postion. Washington drew the walk to load the bases and set up Collom for the grand slam to put the Mavs up 9-0.
Swofford's home run put the Mavs in their third run rule situation in three games.
The Demons threatened in the fifth with a pair of runs, but the Mavs were able to hang on and win in five innings.
The Mavericks will be back in action when they host Louisiana Tech for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Allan Saxe Field.
