LUBBOCK, Texas - The UT Arlington softball team split with Texas Tech in a doubleheader Tuesday at Rocky Johnson Field. The Mavs snapped a two-game non-conference losing streak with a 5-3 win in game one and the Red Raiders won the second 8-1.

In game one, senior Amanda Swofford gave the Mavs the 1-0 lead in the top of the second with her 11th home run of the season, but the Red Raiders quickly answered in the home half of the inning to make it even again heading into the third.

After leading UTA last season, senior Katie Jones, hit her fourth home run of the season in the top of the third to put the Mavs back on top 2-1.

After two scoreless innings, Texas Tech's Jennifer Bowers led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a shot over the center field fence to knot the score at 2-2.

In the Mavs fifth extra inning game of the season, sophomore Samantha Chumchal hit a three RBI blast to left center in the ninth. Chumchal's second homer of the season plated Kristin Moore who reached on a singles and freshman Whitney Simpson who reached on a fielder's choice, to put the Mavs ahead 5-2.

In the bottom of the ninth, Tech's comeback fell short as they were only allowed to score one run off a double from Elizabeth Eimen.

Sophomore Cara Hulme (12-5) picked up the complete game win with nine strikeouts, giving up just three runs while scattering five hits. Ashley Jacobs (8-14) took the loss for Texas Tech with five runs on six hits and four walks.

In the second game, Tech jumped on the board with a pair of runs in the first and doubled its lead with two more runs in the home half of the second inning for the 4-0 advantage.

Jones scored the Mavs lone run in game two after reaching on a walk in the top of the fifth and crossing home on a double from freshman Rebecca Collom.

Texas Tech answered in the home half of the inning with four more runs to seal thewin.

Senior Laura Jones (5-11) took the loss for the Mavs, while Tye Coats (6-10) is credited with the win for the Red Raiders.

UTA returns to Southland Conference action this weekend as it hosts Southeastern Louisiana for a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
