ARLINGTON - Texas - UT Arlington received two dominant pitching performances from Teri Lyles and Cara Hulme as UTA shutout Southeastern Louisiana twice during Saturday's double-header at Allen Saxe Field.
In game one Hulme threw a brilliant gem, going six innings while surrendering only one hit and striking out nine. The Mavericks run-rulled the Lady Lions 9-0 in six innings. The one hit Hulme gave up prevented her from getting her second perfect game in the last two weeks.
Hulme supported herself by blasting her team-leading fifth home run of the year. The two run shot was all she needed. Three other Mavericks (12-8, 3-2) also had multi-hit games as Brittany Washington went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
The second game was more of the same, but instead Lyles delivered the pitching gem. UTA shut out SLU (4-10, 1-4) again in the second game 6-0 with Lyles pitching seven innings surrendering three hits while striking out three.
Much like Hulme did in game one, Lyles also supported herself at the plate. She went 3-for-4 with a RBI. Shortstop Courtney Enocksen continued her strong play, collecting three hits after getting two hits in game one.
First baseman Rebecca Collom delivered the big blow of the second game with a three run home run. It was her second home run of the year.
UTA finishes the three game series Sunday at noon at Allen Saxe Field.
