Final Stats
College Station, Texas - The UT Arlington softball team finished day two of the 2011 Aggie Classic going 1-1. The Mavericks recorded a 5-2 victory over the Shockers and followed with a 4-0 loss to No. 23 Texas A&M.
Sophomore Teri Lyles (2-3) recorded her second win of the tournament against the Shockers. Lyles went the distance, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking a season high 11 batters.
Senior Rebecca Collom returned strong for the Mavs at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run and a pair of RBI.
Stephanie Gonzalez and Erica LeFlore also finished with multi-hit performances, each connecting on two hits.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Mavericks bats came alive in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
UTA plated two runs on three hits in the fourth to tie the game at 2-2. Collom delivered in the sixth inning when she doubled and scored a run.
The hits came on coming and so did the runs in the sixth inning as the Mavericks added two insurance runs to their lead, making it 5-2.
The two runs in the first were the only runs the Shockers could produce.
UT Arlington at No. 23 Texas A&M
In the final game of day two, UT Arlington dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 23 Texas A&M.
Sophomore Callie Collins (2-1) picked up her first loss of the season against the Aggies. Collins pitched 6.0 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits.
UTA had plenty of chances to score on the Aggies but couldn't deliver leaving eight runners stranded.
The Mavericks scattered four hits to the Aggies eight. Gonzalez led the Mavericks, going 1-for-2 with two walks.Kersti Rowan, Alexis Cantu and LeFlore were the other Mavs to record hits.
UT Arlington will play its final game of the tournament tomorrow against Texas Southern at 12:15.
