Final Stats
Hammond, LA - The UT Arlington softball team recorded a 3-0 win in game three against SE Louisiana Sunday afternoon in Hammond, LA. With the win, the Mavericks won the series over the Lady Lions and improved their overall record to 16-10 and 5-1 in Southland action.
On Saturday, the Mavericks split with SELU, dropping game one, 5-1 and winning an 8-0 decision in game two.
Freshman Callie Collins recorded her ninth win of the season and pitched her first one-hitter of the season. Collins went the distance, allowing zero runs on one hit while striking out eight.
Stephanie Gonzalez and Courtney Zink led the Mavericks offensively in the win. Gonzalez went 1-for-4 with a double and RBI while Zink finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and run scored.
The Mavericks got on board in the first inning following a sacrifice fly ball to center field by Erica LeFlore scored Charne Office. Office reached on a base-on-balls earlier in the inning.
UTA added to their 1-0 advantage in the fourth with a pair of runs. Second baseman Zink singled up the middle, scoring Kersti Rowan from second. Gonzalez plated UTA's third run of the game when she connected on a RBI double down the left field line. The double was the freshman's third of the season.
The Mavericks combination of pitching and defense held the Lady Lions scoreless for the second time in the series. SE Louisiana left five runners stranded.
UT Arlington will take a break from conference action next week when it takes on Baylor on Tuesday in Waco, Texas followed by a double-header against Prairie View A&M the next day at 3 and 5 p.m. Game time for the Baylor matchup is set for 5 p.m.
