Final Stats
Arlington, Texas - UT Arlington's struggles from game two followed them into the final game of the series against Northwestern State as they suffered a 3-1 loss Sunday at Allan Saxe Field. The setback dropped them to 27-15 overall and 14-4 in Southland play.
Junior Kersti Rowan led the Mavericks offensively in the three-game series going 6-for-10 for a .600 batting average. Rowan connected on her second multi-hit performance of the series in game three, going 3-for-4 with a triple and run scored.
Northwestern State took an early 1-0 lead in the first when Kylie Roos tagged a 3-2 pitch to left field for a solo homer.
The Mavericks only run of the game came in the third when Rowan slapped a shot over the left fielder for a stand up triple, putting her in scoring position. Senior Rebecca Collom scored Rowan when she connected on a double to left center. It was the New Boston, Texas native's 12th double of the season.
True freshman Callie Collins began to struggle in the third and allowed a pair of Northwestern State runs on three hits. Sophomore Teri Lyles came in for Collins with one out and two runners on and was able to get the final two outs of the inning. The pair of runs put the Lady Demons up 3-1.
Collins (16-5) took the loss and finished the game pitching 2.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out two. Lyles pitched 4.2 innings and allowed zero runs on one hits and struck out two.
Northwestern State pitcher Kelee Grimes recorded the win, improving her mark to 6-6. Grimes allowed one run on five hits and struck out eight.
Up next for the Mavericks is a road series at Stephen F. Austin on April 16-17. First pitch for the double-header is scheduled for Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m. UTA closes the series with a Sunday game at noon.
