Final Stats
Nacogdoches, Texas - The UT Arlington softball team will look to sweep Stephen F. Austin tomorrow after winning game one 3-2 and game two 11-6 at the SFA Softball Complex in Nacogdoches, Texas. The victories improved the Mavericks to 29-15 overall and 16-4 in conference action.
True freshman Callie Collins (17-5) guided the Mavericks to a 3-2 victory in game one against Stephen F. Austin after finishing with 12 strikeouts. Collins recorded her 15th complete game of the season and allowed only two runs on three hits.
Freshman Taylor Zink scored the Mavericks first run of the game in the second when she connected on a deep fly ball to center scoring Teri Lyles from third for a sacrifice fly.
Stephen F. Austin tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning when Krista Hallmark doubled to left center scoring Bethany Brown.
The Mavericks added another run in the third when junior Courtney Enocksen ripped a single up the middle scoring Kersti Rowan from second.
Collins began to struggle in bottom half of the inning, allowing a hit and three walks. SFA tied the game at 2-2 following a bases loaded walk to Brown.
After a scoreless fourth, UT Arlington took a 3-2 advantage in the fifth following a fielding error by SFA which scored junior Charne Office. Office reached on a double to left field earlier in the inning. It was the junior's eighth of the season.
The Mavericks pitching and defense buckled down the rest of the way and held the LadyJacks scoreless.
In game two, UTA connected on a conference high 15 hits to roll past SFA 11-6. The 11 runs also tied a conference high for the Mavs.
Five Mavericks finished with multi-hit performances including senior Rebecca Collom who went 3-for-5 with two RBI, a double and home run. Collom connected on her 10th home run of the season in the seventh and 13th double of the season in the fourth.
Teri Lyles quickly put UTA on top 1-0 when she singled to right field scoring Office. Office got on base when she connected on her second double of the series to left field.
SFA's Lauren Luetge ripped an RBI double to right field, tying the game at 1-1. The score wasn't tied for long as UT Arlington connected on two hits and took advantage of a costly error by SFA in the fourth which led to three runs.
With a 4-1 lead, the Mavericks continued to add to their advantage as Kelsey Kaiser did the damage this time with a single to left field scoring Rachel Forshaw.
The LadyJacks connected on a single run in the bottom of the fifth when Charlotte Singleton homered to left field.
UTA's offense exploded in the sixth, scoring four runs on four hits. The Mavericks didn't stop there adding two more runs in the seventh on three hits.
Office finished game two going 2-for-5 with three RBI, two doubles and three runs scored. Lyles also had a good at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Lyles pitched a complete game and improved her record to 11-9 overall. The sophomore allowed six runs on six hits and struck out three.
UT Arlington will look for the sweep tomorrow when they play the final game of the series. First pitch is set for noon.
