Final Stats
San Antonio, Texas - The UT Arlington softball team opened Saturday's double-header against UTSA with a pair of victories. The Mavericks recorded a 3-2 win in game one and closed the day with an 11-3 five inning victory in game two.
With the pair of wins, UTA improved to 25-12 overall and 12-2 in the Southland.
Senior Rebecca Collom connected on her 32nd career home run in the seventh to lift the Mavericks to a 3-2 win in game one. Collom finished 1-for-4 and the homer was the seniors eighth of the season.
True freshman Callie Collins (14-3) led the Mavericks in the circle pitching her 12th complete game of the season. Collins allowed two runs on five hits while striking out seven.
The Mavericks jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage in the first when junior Erica LeFlore ripped a two-run shot over the center field wall. For the game, the UTA catcher went 2-for-3 with two RBI, a double and home run.
UTSA made it a 2-1 game in the third following a solo home run from Fichtner. The Roadrunners came back in the following inning to tie the game at 2-2 after Collins loaded the bases and walked in the tying run.
Collom didn't leave the score tied at 2-2 for long as her home run was all the Mavericks needed to come out with the win.
Offensively, UTA scattered 12 hits with four Mavs connecting on multi-hit performances.
The Mavericks moved to game two where they easily recorded an 11-3 five inning victory. The run rule game was the fifth for UTA this season and was the second against a conference opponent.
Sophomore Teri Lyles improved her record to 10-8 in the circle. Lyles pitched five innings allowing three runs on three hits and struck out four.
LeFlore connected on her second homer of the series and fourth of the season in the first, giving UTA a 2-0 advantage. The Roadrunners tied the game in the bottom half of the inning when they plated two runs on a hit.
UTSA scored another run in the third to take a 3-2 lead but UTA's bats came out in full force in the fourth.
The Mavericks plated nine runs on six hits which consisted of a three-run homer by Charne Office, a two-run double by Collom and four singles.
UTA held the Roadrunners scoreless in their final two at bats, wrapping up the game a little under two hours.
The Mavericks connected on 12 hits to the Roadrunners three. Collom finished the game going 3-for-4 with three RBI, a double and two runs scored. LeFlore and Courtney Zink each recorded a pair of hits.
UT Arlington will look for the sweep tomorrow at noon when they take on the Roadrunners in the final game of the series.
