ARLINGTON, Tex. - UT Arlington won four field events and turned in tremendous performances in several events Saturday at the 35th annual Bobby Lane Invitational at Maverick Stadium.
Cordero Gray turned in the fastest collegiate time in the 100m and the second-fastest time among collegiate athletes in the 200m. The Mavericks senior sprinter recorded a time of 10.26 in the 100m, which places him eighth in the NCAA this season. He also clocked a time of 20.77 in the 200m, which would have placed him in a tie for fifth in the NCAA were it not for excessive winds. His 100m time stands in the NCAA top marks.
Shannon Reynolds turned in the top 200m time among collegiate athletes with a mark of 23.94. DeAndrea Smith turned in the next fastest time among collegiate athletes of 24.25.
Ivan Storic, Casey Keeter and Lionel Mungwari won the javelin throw, shot put and long jump, respectively.
Isiah Clements won the high jump with a mark of 2.05 meters.
Storic turned in a throw of 67.70 meters - the second-longest of his collegiate career.
Keeter's shot put of 17.41 meters marked the second-longest throw of season. Keeter also finished third in the discus.
Branko Petrovic gave the Mavericks a 1-2 finish in the event, finishing second with a throw of 16.24 meters.
Mungwari set a personal-best in winning the long jump, turning in a leap of 7.44 meters. Brandon Waller placed second in the event with a jump of 7.17 meters.
Esther Abuto finished second in the 800m with a time of 2:12.33.
Heinz Schwarzkopf placed second in the 3000 Steeplechase with a time of 9:47.06.
Several other UTA athletes turned in personal-best marks. Romain Martin set new bests in the discus throw (61.21 meters) and the 110m hurdles (14.45).
Renan Palma's time of 14.19 in the 110m hurdles marked a new personal-best as did DeAndrea Smith's time of 55.47 in the 400m.
Sammy Nash finished second in the pole vault with a mark of 3.35 meters. On the men's side, Michael Piatt's vault of 4.25 meters ranked second.
The women's 4x400m relay team won the event with a time of 3:42.10.
The men's 4x100m relay team finished third with a time of 40.18.
One former UTA athlete, Canadian Olympian Jared Connaughton, won the 100m with a time of 10.17. Baylor's Marcus Boyd won the 200m, clocking a 20.47.
Adrienne Power highlighted the women's 400m, winning with a time of 53.11.
Baylor's Tiffani McReynolds set the Bobby Lane Invitational meet record in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 12.91.
Michelle Carter, an unattached competitor, set the Bobby Lane Invitational meet record in the shot put with a throw of 17.73 meters.
