Final Stats

Arlington, Texas - The UT Arlington softball team opened their series against McNeese State with a 3-2 nine inning victory but suffered a 1-0 11 inning loss in game two.

UT Arlington wraps up the three game series tomorrow with a 12 p.m. start at Cowgirl Diamond in Lake Charles, LA.

With the score knotted up at 2-2 heading into the ninth, freshman Taylor Zink connected on her first collegiate career home run to put the Mavericks on top 3-2. Zink was the only UTA player to have a multi-hit performance, finishing 2-for-4 with a home run, double and two runs scored.

Sophomore Teri Lyles led the Mavericks in the pitching circle and improved her record to 13-10 overall. Lyles pitched 6.2 innings and allowed zero runs on three hits and struck out three. True freshman Callie Collins started in the circle but after a rough start was pulled after giving up two runs on three hits in 2.1 innings of work.

McNeese State took a 2-0 advantage following a pair of home runs in the second. The two runs were the only runs the Mavericks would allow the rest of the game.

UTA made it a 2-1 game in the fifth following a bases loaded walk to Charne Office. The Mavericks tied the game at 2-2 in the seventh when a Courtney Zink ground ball to second base scored pinch runner Kallan Thompson from third.

T. Zink's homer in the ninth secured the win for the Mavericks.
