Final Stats
Huntsville, Texas - In the second day of the SLC Tournament, the No. 5 UTSA Roadrunners knocked off the No. 2 UT Arlington Mavericks in a 4-3 11 inning game Friday afternoon at Bearkat Stadium.
UTA ends the 2011 season with a 33-25 overall record while the Roadrunners move to the next round to face No. 1 A&M-Corpus Christi with a 28-26 mark. The game against UTSA was the fourth meeting this season and seventh time the Mavericks have gone into extra innings.
The five errors in the contest was a season-high for the Mavs.
Sophomore Teri Lyles took the loss against the Roadrunners and concluded her season with a 16-15 record. Lyles pitched her fifth extra inning game and allowed four runs on 11 hits while striking out 10.
Stephanie Gonzalez connected on her first hit of the tournament in the first when she singled to center and advanced to second on an error by the center fielder. With two outs, catcher Erica LeFlore gave the Mavs a 1-0 lead when she singled through the left side scoring Gonzalez from second.
UTSA came back to tie the game in the third at 1-1 following a Kristin Kappler RBI-single. After a scoreless fourth, the Roadrunners bats came alive in the fifth as they went on to take a 3-1 advantage on two hits and a pair of errors by UTA's defense.
With two runners on in the sixth, shortstop Courtney Enocksen ripped a shot to right center, scoring pinch runners Kallan Thompson and Jordan Barry to tie the game at 3-3. Enocksen finished the game 1-for-5 with a pair of RBI.
After seven complete innings, both teams would head into extra innings and it wasn't until the 11th until the Roadrunners would seal the win. UTSA managed to load the bases in the 11th and forced the Mavericks to make a play. After getting a force out at home, catcher Rachel Forshaw attempted to get a double play at first and overthrew her target, allowing the winning run to cross home plate.
As a team, UT Arlington scattered 10 hits with three Mavericks recording multi-hit performances in the loss. LeFlore led the team offensively going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
