BERKELEY, Calif. - UT Arlington dropped the final two matches at the Hilton Garden Inn Classic on Saturday, falling by identical 3-1 score to Georgetown and Nevada in Berkeley, Calif.
The Mavericks (2-9) won the first set against the Wolfpack (2-8), but lost the match 22-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-16.
"As much as we got out of yesterday, I really was not encouraged by the way we played tonight," UT Arlington coach Diane Seymour said. "We have been asking them to extend matches, but winning the first one and then getting slaughtered in the next three really does not count."
Alicia Shaffer led the Mavs with 31 digs - the highest total by a UTA player this season. Megan Casey added seven digs off the bench.
Amanda Welsh notched her first career double-double, posting 33 assists and 10 digs.
Amanda Aguilera led UT Arlington with 18 kills while adding seven digs. Tara Frantz chipped in with 12 kills as well.
However, after the Mavericks hit .293 in the first set, they struggled to a .039 hitting percentage over the final three sets.
"We started out hot, but then we just went back to far too many errors," Seymour said. "Amanda played well, but the rest of our hitters just had way too many errors."
Amy Davault made an impact in the service game with three aces. She also finished with five digs.
Earlier in the day, UT Arlington split the first two sets with Georgetown before the Hoyas captured the final two to take the match. The Mavericks fell 26-24, 26-28, 25-16, 25-15.
Amanda Aguilera turned in her second double-double of the season, registering 18 kills and 10 digs. Tara Frantz turned in 15 kills.
Amanda Welsh had her first-career 40-assist game, finishing with 43.
Shaffer led the Mavericks with 26 digs.
Ashley Bennett, making her first career start, had six kills and four blocks. Emily Shearin added six kills and five blocks.
UT Arlington finally returns home next week and will host the UT Arlington Invitational starting with the home opener Friday against Louisiana-Lafayette at Texas Hall. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
