Huntsville, Texas - The Mavericks women's basketball team loss their second conference game of the season Wednesday night in Huntsville, Texas after the Sam Houston State Bearkats came away with the victory, 58-41.
Despite the Beakats turning the ball over several times due to missed passes and miss cues the Mavericks were unable to convert those possessions into points shooting only 16.7 percent for the first 10 minutes.
The Mavericks headed to the locker room trailing by 10, 32-22 after shooting 21.9 percent from the field.
"We needed to hit shots," head coach Samantha Morrow said. "We didn't shot the ball well, in spite of that, I thought we played good defense."
The Mavericks played tough defense with a season-low 14 turnovers.
Sam Houston's Sequeena Thomas was charged with an intentional foul after an unnecessary shove to junior Sabreena DeNure. DeNure made both free-throws, completing a 9-2 run by the Mavericks.
The Mavericks turn the ball over twice with 5 minutes to go in the game and Sam Houston was able to grab four easy points.
After a steal and easy layup from freshman Chauntandra Williams the Mavericks closed the gap to just three, but were unable to hang on as the Bearkats went on an 11-2 run.
Williams was the Mavericks leading scorer for the night with 10 points while also grabbing 6 rebounds.
Freshman Takiyah Langford grabbed 9 rebounds on the night while scoring 6 points and coming away with 3 steals.
