Arlington, Texas - The Mavericks played their final game at Texas Hall on Saturday afternoon, falling to Texas State 90-73.
The Bobcats hit six 3-pointers in the first half, with Diamond Ford knocking down four as the visitors took control early. UT Arlington headed to the locker room at halftime trailing 45-32.
"Diamond Ford can score from wherever, she's an excellent player," UTA head coach Samantha Morrow said.
The Mavericks started the second half with energy and intensity. UTA made four of its first five shots from the floor in the first two minutes, including a 3-point play from Briana Walker, which forced the Texas State bench to call an early timeout.
With the Mavericks trailing by two, Desherra Nwanguma hit a jumper to tie the score at 63. Sabreena DeNure knocked down a pair of free throws to give UTA the lead 65-63.
Back-to-back 3s from the Bobcats allowed Texas State to regain the lead 74-69 with 3:38 to play in the game.
Walker finished the game with an impressive double-double, scoring 28 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. DeNure came away with 14 points and seven rebounds.
"Bianca (Sauls) and Briana had four fouls and I need those two out there and you just hate to have to sit someone,' Morrow said. "Again, it just comes down to execution at the end of the game."
The Mavericks travel across campus for their first game at College Park Center. The Mavericks host UTSA in the new arena Wednesday at 6 p.m. with the men's basketball game following.
