Arlington, Texas - The Mavericks fell to the Sam Houston State Bearkats 61-45 in the College Park Center on Wednesday night.
UT Arlington fell behind early when Sam Houston State went on a 6-0 run to start of the game.
Despite outscoring the Bearkats in the paint the first half, 14-6, the Mavericks headed to the locker room trailing 33-20.
"Tonight's game was a reflection of our practice, we did not have a good practice," UT Arlington head coach Samantha Morrow said. "I'm disappointed in our execution and disappointed in our effort."
Junior Sabreena DeNure led the team with eight points, while also grabbing six rebounds and two steals. Desherra Nwanguma led the team with nine rebounds. Freshman Krioni Bruce scored a season-high six points for the Mavericks.
Despite shooting 25 percent from the field, UT Arlington shot 81.8 percent from the free throw line.
The Bearkats' Sequeena Thomas averages 13.9 points per game, but the Mavericks' defense only let her come away with eight points for the night.
The Mavericks travel to San Marcos to take on the Texas State Bobcats on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Oscar Strahan Coliseum.
