SB: Mavs fall 1-0 at UTSA

April 20, 2012

Final Stats

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Mavericks fell to the UTSA Roadrunners on Friday night 1-0 in a Southland Conference road game.

Both teams struggled offensively, as UTSA was able to score the only run of the entire game.

"It was a pitchers dual," UT Arlington acting head coach Angela Perry said. "(Teri Lyles) pitched a solid game, but we came up short.

"We couldn't provide run support for our pitcher."

Lyles fell to 7-10 on the season after the grueling loss. Hillary Steed and Erica LeFlore each picked up a hit, but it wasn't enough for the Mavericks.

UTSA's Haylee Staton pitched an impressive game, throwing 11 strikeouts against no walks and allowing only two hits.

The ninth-place Mavericks (13-20, 3-8 SLC) have picked up more victories on the road than at home. UTA has dropped seven of their last nine games, but hope to pick up a victory tomorrow.

The team will be back on the diamond Saturday at 2 p.m. as in the finale of the two-game series.
