SB: Mavs win 3-2 in 11 innings

SAN MARCOS, Texas - UT Arlington defeated the Texas State Bobcats 3-2 in 11 innings in the Texas Shootout.

"I think they've kept the fight that they've had all season," UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said about her team. "The other team got up on a couple of runs and we never gave up and that's all I can ask from them."

Taylor Zink was hit by a pitch and Kallan Thompson grounded out to the shortstop, advancing Zink to second. Britnea Barilli single to left center and Zink ran into third before be thrown out stealing home.

Meagan Michele singles to left field in the bottom of the fifth and Zink singled up the middle to put two runners on with one out for the Mavs. Thompson advanced both runners into scoring position, but got called out at first followed by a strikeout for three outs.

Texas State picked up a sacrifice bunt and grounded out to advance their runner to third base with two outs in the top of the sixth inning. Macie Hair flied out to center field to end the inning with the tied still tied 0-0.

The Bobcats scored on a throwing error by Lauren Siple in the top of the eight to give Texas State the first run of the game.

Zink singled and advanced Forshaw to third. Zink then advanced to second on a throwing error to put runners in scoring positions for the Mavericks. Barilli picked up a hit, but Forshaw was thrown at home for the second out of the inning. Nina Villanueva was hit by a pitch with bases loaded sending Zink across the plate to score the game 1-1. Jolene Shafer flied out to end the inning.

Texas State scored in the top of the 10th when Kellie Baker grounded out to third base and advanced a runner to second base.

Zink hit a single down the right field line scoring Forshaw to tie the game 2-2. Zink advanced to second on a groundout by Thompson, but the Mavs left one stranded at the end of the 10th inning.

The Bobcats had the bases loaded in the top of the 11th with two outs but fouled out to Michele to end the inning.

UT Arlington had runners in scoring position when Michele hit the ball to deep left center to drive in Rebecca Stokes for a 3-2 victory over the Bobcats.

Teri Lyles improved to 5-1 on the season and the Mavericks improved to 6-4 on the season. The Bobcats had two runs on six hits with three walks.

The Mavericks are back in action Friday, March 1 at Allan Saxe Field as they host Creighton, Tulsa and Lamar for the UTA Hilton Classic.
