SAN MARCOS, Texas - UT Arlington women's basketball fell 68-60 to Texas State Wednesday night at Strahan Coliseum for its fifth straight Sun Belt Conference loss.
Desherra Nwanguma picked up her second double-double and for of the season for the Mavericks (1-15, 0-5 SBC) with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Tahlia Pope grabbed eight offensive rebounds, scored eight points, dished out five assists and had two steals.
"Dede (Nwanguma) was working really hard," UT Arlington Coach Krista Gerlich said. "She stayed positive throughout the game. I was really proud of her performace because she was playing against the biggest team in the league and did a really nice job."
Texas State (6-10, 3-2 SBC) won the tipoff, but neither team was able to score as UT Arlington had five turnovers in the first five minutes of play. The Mavericks continued to struggle, shooting 18.5 percent from the floor and trailing 25-13 at the end of the first half.
The Mavericks made a push in the second half, but were only able to close the gap to six points after a 3-pointer from Malaika Green. UT Arlington scored a season-high 47 points in the second half, but it wasn't enough as the Bobcats held on.
UT Arlington has a week off before hosting Troy Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at College Park Center.
