SB: Mavs swept by WKU in Sun Belt doubleheader

ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader to WKU at Allan Saxe Field.

The Mavericks (14-20, 0-5 SBC), hosting their first-ever Sun Belt Conference series, battled back from down three runs in the seventh inning of Game 1 before falling in extras and were no-hit in Game 2 vs. the Lady Toppers (21-10-1, 5-0).

"We have to grow up," UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said. "We are playing really immature and we are at the point of the season where that can't matter anymore. We're not there yet."

UTA and WKU conclude the series Sunday at 12 p.m.

Game 1 - WKU 8, UT Arlington 5 (8) | Final Stats

UT Arlington overcame a three-run deficit to force extra innings, however it was WKU which came on top.

Nina Villanueva led the Mavericks with a 3-for-3 effort from the plate, providing three RBI and scored two runs.

The Lady Toppers built up a 5-1 advantage on a RBI double sandwiched between a pair of two-run homers in the first and third.

The Mavericks picked up a run in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-2 on a double by Villanueva to score Shelbi Sikes.

Villanueva then helped UTA begin a three-run rally on two outs to in the seventh to force extra innings. Her third double of the contest scored two to bring the Mavs within a run. Marisa Datko completed the comeback on a single just over the glove of the third basemen to score Villanueva from second.

However, WKU answered with another two-run shot in the eighth and added an insurance run.

Game 2- WKU 8, UT Arlington 0 | Final Stats

UTA struggled to get a bat on the ball in the second game, going hitless against the Lady Toppers. The Mavericks left five on base, including four in scoring position in the contest.

WKU's Hannah Miniard (10-3) earned the Lady Toppers' second no-hitter in as many weekends. Miniard struck out nine and walked four.
