SAN MARCOS, Texas - UT Arlington softball fell 9-1 to Texas State on Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Softball Stadium. The Mavericks end the regular season 20-32 overall and 4-16 in the Sun Belt Conference after the final series of the season.
The Mavericks open the Sun Belt Conference Championship on Wednesday in Lafayette, Louisiana against Texas State at 12:30 p.m.
"Seeing Texas State this weekend allowed us to see their best pitcher two times," UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said. "We had some good opportunities, and if a couple of things fall our way, I feel good about our chances."
Callie Collins started her 28th game of her senior season and dropped to 12-14. She pitched the entire game.
Texas State got going with a homer to left-center in the bottom of the second inning. The next batter sent one soaring in the same direction to lead 2-0.
Jasmine Tanksley scored in the third to put the Mavericks on the board. UTA finiahed with three hits.
Texas State scored one run on a double to the left-center wall in the fourth inning and two in the fifth on a single up the middle. Coralee Ramirez hit her second home run of the game to extend the Bobcats' lead 8-1 in the sixth. A double up the middle scored the final run of the game as the Bobcats took the game 9-1.
