LAFAYETTE, Louisiana - UT Arlington battled No. 7 Louisiana in dropping a Sun Belt Conference doubleheader Saturday at Lamson Park.

The Mavericks are 14-13 on the season and 0-3 in league play. UTA has dropped its last four games. The Ragin' Cajuns improved to 20-3 and 5-1 in the Sun Belt.

UT Arlington did make significant improvement after losing Friday's series opener 18-0. Louisiana's high-powered offense was held to 12 runs in the two-game sweep.

"We made some adjustments overnight and did a much better job limiting Lafayette's runs today," UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said. "We need to move forward and focus on our next opponent and use our midweek games to get back in our hitting groove."

The Mavericks return to action Tuesday at Allan Saxe Field against Abilene Christian. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. and admission is free.

Game 1: Louisiana 4, UTA 1
Final Stats
UTA starter Kayla Donaldson worked around three separate situations in which Louisiana loaded the bases, allowing three runs in the first and just one over the final five innings. UL had just three hits against the UTA freshman. Donaldson walked 11, struck out four and dropped to 4-6 on the season.

"When Kayla threw strikes her stuff was on today," Fox said. "Giving up only three hits to the No. 7 team in the country as a freshman is a big deal and I hope she builds some confidence off that outing."

The Mavs had a rough go around against UL's Jordan Wallace. Wallace struck out 16 in improving to 9-1.

Despite the improved pitching for UTA, Louisiana capitalized on its chances in the first to bring home three runs on just one hit. UL went up a 4-0 lead in the third, but left the bases loaded for the second time in the game.

The Mavericks recorded their first hit in the fifth inning. Kacey Everett's single to left put a runner in scoring position for the first time in the series and, after two consecutive walks, UTA picked up its first run. The run was UTA's first against the Ragin' Cajuns in five games dating back to 1990.

The Mavs were unable to do any more damage, leaving the bases full in the sixth before going in order in the seventh to end the game.

Game 2: Louisiana 8, UTA 0 (6)
Final Stats
Mavericks starter Sam Montes (5-6) held to Ragin' Cajuns to one run through the first three innings before the floodgates opened late. Louisiana scored several runs in the last three frames, including four in the sixth to complete the run rule.

UTA managed two hits against Louisiana's Christina Hamilton, as Sandra Mendoza and Britnea Barilli each had singles. Nina Villanueva, Shelbi Sikes, Mya Anderson and Kacey Everett also reached via walks.

The Mavericks did get at least one runner on base in each of the first five innings, with both hits coming in the fifth.

Hamilton went the distance for Louisiana, improving to 5-1. She struck out six and walked four.
