ARLINGTON, Texas - UT Arlington fell in an offensive battle with Georgia Southern 13-10 on Sunday at Allan Saxe Field.

The Mavericks (17-15, 2-4 SBC) and Eagles (8-21, 1-8) combined for 28 hits in the Sun Belt Conference series finale. Georgia Southern rallied for five runs in the sixth to avoid the sweep, while UTA left 13 on base overall.

"We did a good job offensively and I think they did a pretty good job defensively as well," UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said. "They took advantage of every opportunity that they had."

UTA returns to action on Wednesday when it looks to avenge a nonconference loss to Abilene Christian. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Abilene.

Haley Henson was a 4-for-5 at the plate, scoring two runs and driving in a run. Mallory Foster had two hits and a team-high three RBI to lead the Mavs. UTA had at least a hit from eight of its nine starters.

"Coming in I thought we were going to do really well," Henson said. "I knew that they were a good hitting team. We just needed to keep in mind that they were a good hitting team and to be ready for it."

UTA, holding an early 7-5 lead after three innings, had to rally as Georgia Southern scored three over the fourth and fifth innings.

Three walks loaded the bases for the Mavs to start the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore Shelbi Sikes hit a long sacrifice fly to left to score Britnea Barilli. Foster and Henson each had RBI singles through the middle to give UTA a 10-8 advantage.

A three-run homer helped the Eagles leap back into the lead. It was followed by a solo shot in the next at-bat that capped a five-run sixth.

Overall, UTA finished with 12 hits in the game.
