ARLINGTON, Texas -- UT Arlington's five-game winning streak came to an end as No. 24 South Alabama swept the Mavericks in a doubleheader on Friday at Allan Saxe Field.
The Mavericks (21-17, 5-6 SBC) struggled to produce runs with runners on. The Mavs left 16 on during the two games, including 10 in the day's finale.
"They just need to focus on having better quality at-bats. We swung at too many balls outside of the zone. We are good hitting team, but we have to swing at strikes."
South Alabama's pitchers struck out a combined 18 hitters, including a 12-strikeout performance by the Game 1 starter. Shelbi Sikes led the Mavs overall on offense. Sikes had two hits and three RBI, while Kacey Everett provided a home run in Game 1.

Behind four home runs, the Jaguars were able to overcome an early deficit to end UTA's winning streak at five games.
The Mavericks were unable to find success against South Alabama starter Farish Beard (5-2). Beard struck out 12 UTA hitters, coming four short of her career high.
Sikes led the Mavs with a 2-for-3 game and two RBI, both coming on a two-out double that bounced off the wall in the first.
UTA held a 2-0 advantage for the first three innings before South Alabama rallied for six unanswered runs over the fourth and fifth. After scoring four in the fourth inning, the Jaguars belted two solo home runs in the fifth.
Everett provided a brief response for UTA with a solo shot of her own in the seventh.
UTA starter Sam Montes saw her four-game streak of consecutive wins come to an end as she went to 11-9. Montes gave up six earned runs, while striking out five.

Final Stats
UTA rallied into a brief lead with a four-run second, but was unable to maintain the advantage as USA would score the next five runs in the contest.
Britnea Barilli drew a two-out walk with the bases loaded to score UTA's opening run. Nina Villanueva followed it up with a two-RBI single up the middle before Meagan Michele's walk made it 4-3.
The Mavericks struggled to threaten any more damage in the game as the Jaguars pitcher stepped up. USA pitcher Kalen McGill went to 11-1 after pitching 5.1 innings in relief. McKill struck out four and did not allow a run.
Villanueva was the lone UTA hitter to net a multi-hit game as she was 2-for-3. UTA starter Taylor Simmonds (5-2) struck out four over 5.0 innings pitched. Simmonds allowed six runs (four earned) over six hits.
NOTES: South Alabama holds a 5-0 advantage in the all-time series. ... The Jaguars have won their last nine games in Sun Belt play.
