ARLINGTON, Texas -- UT Arlington was unable to put up a run against in-state rival Texas State as the Mavericks were swept on Saturday in a Sun Belt doubleheader at Allan Saxe Field.

Texas State extended its regular season winning streak over UTA to five games dating back to the 2014 season. The Mavericks fell for the fifth consecutive time.

However, UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said she found positives in how the team finished and hopes to build momentum in the final game of the regular season heading into the Sun Belt Championship next week.

"We just have to keep chipping away," Fox said. "We had opportunities today and out hit them in the second game. The biggest thing is that we need to find a way to get going on all cylinders going into the conference tournament and that is what we need to do. We had opportunities we just need to take advantage."

Senior Meagan Michele was a bright spot for the Mavs' offense as she went 3-for-5 at the plate. Michele plays the final home game of her four-year UTA career Sunday.

"We got two losses but at the end of the day you have to find the positives," Michele said. "I have been seeing the ball well the last couple of weekends and I want to build confidence."

"Tomorrow is going to be very emotional for me, but it is a huge game. They are our rival. Conference is what matters, but we need to come out and play tomorrow."

UTA celebrates the careers of Michele and Nina Villanueva on Senior Day beginning at noon Sunday.

The Mavericks finished with just two hits in the series opener as Texas State ran away with the win.

Haley Henson provided UTA its first baserunner of the contest in the fourth inning as she reached on an infield single. Michele tied Rebecca Collom (2011) with her 26th extra-base hit of the season as she doubled in the fifth.

Texas State took advantage of two UTA errors in the first to plate two runs. The Bobcats doubled the lead in the second.

The Bobcats poured in seven runs during the sixth, hitting two home runs during the frame.

UTA starter Taylor Simmonds fell to 8-6 in the loss. The freshman gave up seven runs (six earned), seven hits and walked four in 5.1 innings pitched.

Texas State continued its trend of scoring early and the Mavericks were hurt by leaving runners on base in the second game.

The Mavericks stranded six in the contest, including runners on the corners to end the game in the seventh.

Michele and Rebecca Stokes led the offense with a pair of hits each. UTA starter Sam Montes settled into the game after allowing two runs (one earned) in the first two innings. Montes gave up just four hits and struck out four.

Looking to rally in the seventh, Stokes followed up a leadoff single by Michele with a two-out bloop single to right. A hard hit ball back at the pitcher ended the game.
