STATESBORO, Ga. - Powered by Brianna Burchianti's first-career grand slam, UT Arlington split the day at Georgia Southern, taking Game 2 13-4 after falling in Game 1 3-0.
"In the first game we didn't take advantages our opportunities and were waiting for good things to happen instead of making good things happen," UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said. "The second game we were much more aggressive."
Sandra Mendoza was 4-for-6 with four walks, two runs and a RBI on the day. Mendoza, Kacey Everett, Mallory Foster and Krista Rude recorded at least one hit in both games. Everett had a team-high three runs on the day, while Burchianti drove in four.
UTA is back on the field tomorrow, concluding the series at Georgia Southern with a single game at 10 a.m. CT.
"Tomorrow we need to stick to our game plan;good defense, good pitching and clutch hits," Fox said.

UT Arlington fell to Georgia Southern in the opening game, 3-0, after stranding 11 on base and missed out on an opportunity with bases loaded in the seventh.
The team's had 19 runners left on in a game that saw neither team take advantage of opportunities. The loss was UTA's first away from home this season.
Sandra Mendoza was bright spot in the Maverick batting order, going 2-for-3 with a walk to improve what was the 12th highest batting average in the nation coming in from .488 to .494. Kacey Everett, Mallory Foster and Krista Rude all recorded hits in the game.
Samantha Clakley fell to 12-3 on the season, giving up three runs, all unearned, while striking out four.
UTA loaded the bases in the first with no outs, however, was unable to cash in on the chance as a double play helped end the threat. The Eagles capitalized on their chance, pushing three runs across the plate in the opening frame.
The Mavs attempted to mount a comeback in the seventh as three singles loaded the bases with two outs. A controversial call at second on a ground ball ended the game, with the Mavs dropping only their fifth game of the season.

Final Stats
After a quiet game offensively in Game 1, the Mavs found their groove with an offensive outburst in Game 2, soaring to a 13-4 victory over Georgia Southern.
The Mavs recorded 13 hits in the game with Mendoza, Curry, Foster and Sikes each tallying multiple hits. Everett crossed the plate a career-high three times to lead UTA, while Mendoza and Sikes reached safely in all four plate appearances - each had two hits and two walks.
UTA wasted little time getting on the board, scoring three in the top of the first. With the bases loaded and one out, Everett drilled a single to left field to score Curry and Barilli, giving UTA the early 2-0 advantage. Everett came around to score on a wild pitch later in the inning.
Already playing a part in the first three runs scored of the game, Everett scored the Mavs' fourth run on an RBI double by Sikes in the third.
A seven-run fourth was highlighted by Burchianti's first career home run coming with the bases loaded, giving the Mavs their first grand slam of the season.
The Eagles didn't go away quietly as they scored four in the fifth to erase the run-rule and extend the game for at least another inning.
In the top of the sixth, the Mavs pushed across two more runs by Rude and Mendoza, putting the run-rule back in affect.
Clakley made quick work of the Eagles in the sixth to secure the 13-4 victory.
