STATESBORO, Ga. - After splitting the first two games of the series at Georgia Southern, UT Arlington softball fell in the rubber match 7-2 Saturday.
"It was a tough road series," UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said."We will work hard at practice to get ready for Appalachian State."
Brianna Burchianti was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Sandra Mendoza, Laura Curry, Kacey Everett and Krista Rude each recorded hits in the game. Mendoza was a team-high 5-for-10 with three walks on the weekend, while Burchianti was the team leader in RBI, driving in six runs in the three games. Mendoza, Everett and Rude each recorded at least one hit in every game of the series.
Georgia Southern got on the board first, scoring two in the second on back-to-back RBI base hits.
In what was a pitchers duel throughout the majority of the game, the Mavs tied it in the sixth when Burchianti drilled an 0-2 pitch to right center to score Kayci Moore and Cy'Andria Newton.
In the bottom of the inning, the Eagles stormed back, scoring five to take the 7-2 lead.
The Mavs looked to mount a comeback in the seventh, loading the bases with one out but we were unable to push any runs across.
UTA returns home to host Appalachian State in a three-game Sun Belt Conference series April 2-3. Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
