Postgame Quotes

Head Coach Krista Gerlich
Statement on the first win:
"We're super excited to get the "W" on opening night. I really think that it was hard fought and that our kids tried to stay together and did what they were asked to do. I think it was tough adjusting to officiating early and it always is for the first game of the year. So we put them on the free throw line and got some kids in foul trouble with that which made it really choppy. I thought they dug deep and we got a lot of kids playing time and everybody scored. I think our scoring is really balanced on and off the bench."

On girls stepping up with others in foul trouble:
"I'm very pleased, it showed our depth and that we can still function with them on the floor. I think its a little more difficult at times, especially early on when they aren't sure of themselves yet. Cierra and Rebekah are just such great leaders and they understand our system and their presence on the court helps the others, but I thought Shelby really stood up and did some nice things as a senior leader for us, I thought she gave us a spark."

Senior Center Rebekah VanDijk
On her offensive showing:
"I think it was rough, we definitely had a lot of fouls, so we just have to adjust to the refs calling and just play solid defense. We practice defense every day so if we just do what we practice then we'll be fine."

Thoughts on teammates after foul troubles:
"I think they had great minutes. I got in foul trouble early so I had to sit and they both came in and did their job. They both got rebounds and had a few points. Jennifer was really good on the boards which was crucial and she had good defense."

Senior Guard Crystal Allen
Thoughts on offensive showing:
"We definitely could've done better, there is always room for improvement. We were taking good shots, just not getting the ball in."

On being able to start a season opener:
"It was pretty great, because got the chance to play on homecoming. I didn't get a chance to play this time last year, so it was great.
