LAFAYETTE, La. - UT Arlington softball fell in the series-finale at No. 18 Louisiana 11-2 at Lamson Park on Sunday.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings in large part to a triple play turned by the Maverick defense.
After the Ragin' Cajuns loaded the bases in the second, Curry caught a flyball in center, threw the runner trying to score out at home and then Kacey Everett nailed the runner at third base trying to advance from second.
The Mavericks were plagued by two big innings, giving up five runs in the third and six in the sixth.
A bases loaded walk to Sandra Mendoza in the fifth plated the first run of the game for UTA.
In the sixth, Whitney Walton lifted her team-leading sixth home run of the season, a no doubter to left.
Krista Rude, Reagan Wright, Aileen Garcia and Walton each recorded hits in the game.
With the loss, UTA moves to 15-13 overall and 2-4 in Sun Belt Play. Louisiana is now 20-5 and 3-0 in the Sun Belt.
The Mavericks return home for a four-game homestand, hosting Houston Baptist on Wednesday at 6 p.m. before welcoming in Georgia Southern for a three-game Sun Belt series Saturday and Sunday.
