Softball Welcomes North Texas To Allan Saxe Field

ARLINGTON – The UT Arlington softball team will end their five-game home stand on Wednesday, Feb. 27 when they host the North Texas Mean Green at Allan Saxe Field with the first pitch coming at 6 p.m. Links for the live stream and stats will be available at UTAMavs.com.

North Texas (10-4) played at the Baylor Invitational last weekend, winning the invite by defeating Kent State 9-0 in the championship game, after defeating No. 10 Louisiana-Lafayette the day prior, 5-1. The Mean Green rounded out the weekend with two wins after dropping three-straight to open the weekend against Kent State, No. 21 Baylor and No. 10 Louisiana-Lafayette.

Through 14 games, Katie Clark leads the Mean Green offense with a .556 batting average.  Hanna Rebar is their long bomb specialist, hitting a team-high four home runs in 12 games played, driving in a team-high 18 runs in the process.

On the mound, North Texas has a pair of pitchers with under a 2.00 ERA.  Hope Trautwein is allowing under a run (0.95 ERA), while Bailey Tindell has a 1.62 ERA on the season.  Batters are hitting just .121 against Trautwein, while striking out 54 times.

The Mavs (8-6) have been on a hot streak as of late, winning six of their last seven contests. UTA is coming off a 2-1 thriller over Abilene Christian at the Maverick Invitational.  The Mavs scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh with a sacrifice fly to clinch the win.

Brittany Wyllie was responsible for the sac fly that knocked in Kayci Moore, who expertly avoided the tag at home.  Over the four-game invitational Wyllie hit .444, while knocking in four runs for the Mavs.

On the season, Whitney Walton is hitting a team-high .405 with 17 hits over 42 at-bats.  Aileen Garcia, who finished with four RBI over the weekend, leads the Mavs with 13 runs batted in on the season.

On the mound, Randi Phillips went 2-1 over the weekend, finishing with a 1.47 ERA, while striking out eight batters.  In three games pitched, she walked just two batters. She now has a team-high five wins on the year, while lowing her ERA to 2.01 in her ten appearances.

JoJo Valencia (3-0) stayed perfect for the year, picking up one win during the Maverick Invitational.  Opponents have struggled reaching base against her over the course of the season, as she has allowed just 14 hits in six appearances in the circle.

Following the action on Wednesday, UTA will hit the road, traveling to Lubbock to play in the Texas Tech Tournament.  The Mavs will play two games against both North Texas and Texas Tech while in Lubbock.

BARK IN THE PARK…ALL SEASON LONG
UT Arlington Department of Athletics officials announced that all 2019 home baseball games at Clay Gould Ballpark and softball games at Allan Saxe Field will be dog-friendly, thanks to a generous partnership with upstart Lone Star Friends of Animals to create 'Casey's Corner.'

Dogs which are leashed, at least six months old and with the proper vaccinations will be permitted at all UTA baseball and softball games throughout the season.

Casey's Corner is a grassy area between the baseball and softball fields, along the 3rd-base line of the baseball stadium. Multiple pet waste stations have been set up, and the space provides fans and dog owners an opportunity to walk and sit with their canine companions while taking in all the Maverick action.
