LUBBOCK – Fresh off a 13-10 walk-off win over North Texas, the UT Arlington softball team will travel to Rocky Johnson Field to compete in the Texas Tech Invitational on March 1-2. Over the two day stretch the Mavs will take on North Texas and Texas Tech two times each.
UTA will open the invite with a rematch against the Mean Green on Friday at 12:30 p.m. They will turn right back around and face off against No. 16 Texas Tech at 3 p.m. The Mavs will finish the Invitational with two more games on Saturday, starting with another 12:30 game against North Texas before rounding out the invite at 5:30 against the Red Raiders.
Live stats will be available for all games, but only games against Texas Tech will be streamed.
The Mavs (9-6) are coming off a 17 hit, 13 run performance over the Mean Green on Wednesday. The hero of the game was
Reagan Wright, who connected on a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the 8
th inning to lift UTA to victory. Wright finished with a game-high seven RBI in the win.
Wright wasn't the only Mav to show off her bat.
Krista Rude finished a perfect four-for-four at the plate, while crossing the plate two times.
UTA is continuing their tough non-conference schedule, playing a ranked or receiving votes opponent for the fifth and sixth time this season, taking on No. 16 Texas Tech twice. The Mavs are currently 2-2 on the year against ranked foes, falling to then-No. 1 UCLA and (RV) Fresno State, while defeating then-No. 16 Baylor twice.
The Red Raiders (13-1) are led by Heaven Burton, who has a team-high 21 hits for a .429 batting average. Trenity Edwards has knocked in a team leading 17 RBI. In the circle, Tech has a trio of pitchers who can get the job done. Erin Edmoundson (8-1, 1.47 ERA) and Missy Zoch (4-0, 2.10 ERA) are the top two pitchers, while Morgan Hornback (0.55 ERA) has done admirably in relief.
Texas Tech is coming off their lone loss of the year, a 4-1 loss at the hands of No. 5 Washington at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, California. The Red Raiders are currently 2-1 against ranked foes, defeating No. 13 Arizona State and No. 17 Oregon, while falling to the aforementioned No. 5 Washington.
After completion of the Texas Tech Invitational, the Mavs will travel to College Station for a mid-week game against (RV) Texas A&M.
BARK IN THE PARK…ALL SEASON LONG
UT Arlington Department of Athletics officials announced that all 2019 home baseball games at Clay Gould Ballpark and softball games at Allan Saxe Field will be dog-friendly, thanks to a generous partnership with upstart Lone Star Friends of Animals to create 'Casey's Corner.'
Dogs which are leashed, at least six months old and with the proper vaccinations will be permitted at all UTA baseball and softball games throughout the season.
Casey's Corner is a grassy area between the baseball and softball fields, along the 3rd-base line of the baseball stadium. Multiple pet waste stations have been set up, and the space provides fans and dog owners an opportunity to walk and sit with their canine companions while taking in all the Maverick action.
