LAST TIME OUT | Mavs Win Series Over Georgia Southern (March 24)
Randi Phillips allowed just two runs in a complete-game effort as the UT Arlington softball team (16-14, 6-3 SBC) clinched a series win over Georgia Southern with a 4-2 win at Allan Saxe Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Mavs got on board early, taking a 1-0 lead whenÂ
Reagan Wright took at walk with the bases loaded to scoreÂ
Whitney Walton.
Following a scoreless second inning, Wright knocked in her second RBI of the day with a single to centerfield, scoringÂ
Krista Rude who scored from second, beating the throw home to put UTA up two runs.
KJ Murphy blasted a two-run home run in the sixth inning, in what would end up being the deciding runs of the game as the Eagles started to rally in the seventh.
Phillips held a perfect game through the first 3.2 innings pitched, and only allowed one hit through the first six innings of play.
In the seventh inning, the first three batters reached safely for Georgia Southern, with the first two scoring to make it a 4-2 ball game. Following a wild pitch, there was a runner on third with no outs, but Phillips ended the threat by forcing two ground outs and striking out an Eagle to end the game, giving the Mavericks the 4-2 win.
The Mavericks outhit the Eagles seven to five, led by Wright's two-hit performance. Walton, Rude,Â
Laura Curry and Murphy each added a hit of their own in the win.
BARK IN THE PARK…ALL SEASON LONG
UT Arlington Department of Athletics officials announced that all 2019 home baseball games at Clay Gould Ballpark and softball games at Allan Saxe Field will be dog-friendly, thanks to a generous partnership with upstart Lone Star Friends of Animals to create 'Casey's Corner.'
Â
Dogs which are leashed, at least six months old and with the proper vaccinations will be permitted at all UTA baseball and softball games throughout the season.
Â
Casey's Corner is a grassy area between the baseball and softball fields, along the 3rd-base line of the baseball stadium. Multiple pet waste stations have been set up, and the space provides fans and dog owners an opportunity to walk and sit with their canine companions while taking in all the Maverick action.
