More than 30 Mavericks will be in action in Austin this week
ARLINGTON, Texas – More than 30 athletes from the UTA men's and women's track and field teams will be in Austin this week to represent the Mavericks at the 92nd running of the venerable Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
The UTA athletes are among more than 7,200 competitors from the high school, collegiate and professional ranks who will be running, jumping or throwing at Mike A. Myers Stadium. More than 2,400 college athletes from 210 colleges and universities will be on hand.
"Getting to go to the Texas Relays is a thrill for everyone," UTA coach John Sauerhage said. "It's truly world class, and gives us a great opportunity to line up alongside the best in the country."
Alexus Henry will get things started for the Mavericks on Wednesday, as for the second straight year she will be competing in the women's heptathlon. The two-day event begins Wednesday morning and will wrap Thursday.
Also competing in the multi-events is Lucas Van Klaveren, who will participate in the men's decathlon over the first two days.
UTA will be well represented in the men's sprints, as Deontre Haynes, Isaiah McBride and Demarviae Gray will all run the 100 meters. McBride also will compete in the long jump. Among the Maverick stars that figure to perform well on the track are Victor Fincher (110m hurdles), Connor Butterfield (1500m) and Justin Domangue (3000m steeplechase).
Henry, the defending NCAA outdoor high jump champion, will also be participating in her signature event in Austin. The other top women's performer in the field is Rhiley Fritz (javelin).
In all, seven UTA relay teams, four men's and three women's groups, will take part.
Live results from all four days will be available here. The Longhorn Network will air coverage Wednesday from 6:30-8 p.m. and Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Friday's live morning action will be broadcast from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., while the evening coverage will run from 5-7 p.m. Final day action on Saturday will be from 1:30-5:30 p.m.
