ARLINGTON, Texas — The UT Arlington men's tennis team (10-6, 1-1 SBC) will travel outside of Texas for just the second time this season, as they begin a three-match stretch away from the UTA Tennis Center.Â
Â
The Mavs will begin with weekend Sun Belt matches against Coastal Carolina (Friday, March 29) and Appalachian State (Sunday, March 31). Friday's match is set to begin at 2 p.m., but Sunday's match will start at 10 a.m.
UTA is coming off their first Sun Belt win of the year – a 7-0 route of Georgia Southern last Sunday. Four of the six singles matches were won in straight sets, while the Mavs took the doubles point with wins coming in the No. 2 and No. 3 slots.
Â
UTA NOTES
• Senior Guanarteme Nuez was announced as the Sun Belt Player of the Week this week after going 4-1 overall, including an upset win over the 11th ranked player in the NCAA.
• The Mavericks currently have two players with double-digit wins (Enrique Pardo – 14 and Guanarteme Nuez – 11). Alejandro Hayen and Mauricio Rio need just one win to join Pardo and Nuez with 10+ wins on the season.
• Doubles teammates Guanarteme Nuez and Mauricio Rio have won three straight matches in the No. 1 competition to put them over .500 on the season. Their last loss came at the beginning of the month, in a 7-6 loss on March 9.
Â
SCOUTING COASTAL CAROLINA
The Chants hold an 11-6 record on the season and are even at 1-1 in Sun Belt play, defeating Troy but losing to South Alabama. Daiki Tanabe locks down the No. 6 singles slot and has a team best 10-3 record in dual matches this year.Â
Â
SCOUTING APPALACHIAN STATE
App State enters the weekend with a 4-14 record overall and is 0-2 in Sun Belt play. The Mountaineers have lost five straight, with their last win coming March 7 against Norfolk State.
