Cook Walks Off In Mavs Win

ARLINGTON, Texas – UTA erased a four-run eighth inning deficit that was capped by a Zac Cook walk-off that gave the Mavs a 9-8 win Thursday.

After Louisiana took an 8-4 lead, UTA (26-13, 12-4) loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth and scored three runs to cut the deficit to one run.

Andrew entered the game in the ninth inning and got Louisiana to strand a pair of runners.

In the bottom of the ninth, Boone Montgomery reached base on an error to score Dylan Paul. With the tying run on second base, Cook hit a single through the infield. Connor Aube scored from second to give the Mavs the win.

Cook and Phillip Childs each led the way with a pair of RBI.

Louisiana got on the board first. The first two Ragin' Cajuns (20-21, 8-8) in the order reached base. Lousiana's next two hitters, Todd Lott and Hunter Kasuls, each drove in a run to give Louisiana a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the second inning, Brennan Breaux laid down a sac bunt to score O'Neal Lochridge from third.

Andrew Miller walked to start the bottom of the second inning. Josh Minjarez and Will Olson both hit singles to lead the bases, setting up Phillip Childs' single that drove home the Mavs' first two runs of the game.

In the next at-bat, David Renning singled to left center to bring Dylan Paul home and tie the game at three apiece.

Aaron Funk began the bottom of the fourth by reaching base on catcher's interference. After he stole second, Zac Cook took care of the rest with a double to right center to give UTA its first lead of the game.

The lead was short-lived, though. In the top of the fifth, Lott launched a two-run to left field to give Louisiana a 5-4 lead. They would hold the lead until the bottom of the ninth.

Game two of the series is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday.
