ARLINGTON, Texas – Aysia Evans scored a career-high 20 points to lead the UTA women's basketball team to a 72-34 win over ULM on Saturday afternoon at College Park Center.
With the win, UTA improves to 11-7 overall and 5-1 in Sun Belt play, while ULM falls to 3-14 on the season and 1-5 in league action.
Evans shot 7-of-13 from the field, 4-of-8 from behind the arc and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe to finish with her game-high and career-high 20 points. The senior also added three assists, three steals, two boards and zero turnovers.
Marie Benson, fresh off her 30-point performance vs. Louisiana on Thursday (Jan. 16), registered her third double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Terryn Milton finished with nine points and five assists, while
Emma Halverson added nine points and three boards.
Katie Ferrell pulled down 10 rebounds and registered three assists and a game-high three blocks.
The Lady Mavs held ULM to just 2 pts in the opening quarter (1-of-12 FG; 8.3%) and took a 14-2 lead after 10 minutes of play. The 2 points are the fewest points UTA has allowed in a quarter this season and also ties program record for fewest points allowed in a quarter (vs. ULM on March 2, 2017).
Leading 17-7 in the second period, UTA went on a 10-0 run, capped by a pair of free throws from Milton, to extend their lead to 20 (27-7). The Lady Mavericks pushed their lead to as many as 21 before heading into the locker room at the intermission with a 35-15 lead.
UTA continued to dominate in the second half, opening the third quarter with a 9-2 run (44-17) and forcing ULM to burn a timeout with 7:55 left in the quarter.
The Lady Mavs would lead 57-27 after three quarters and cruised to the 72-34 victory.
UTA will now hit the road for a pair of SBC matchups. The Lady Mavericks will take on South Alabama (Jan. 23) and Troy (Jan. 25) during the trip.
