FOLEY, Ala. – The UT Arlington volleyball team defeated No. 5 seed (East Division) Georgia Southern 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-20, 25-17) on Thursday night in Pool Play (B) of the Sun Belt Tournament at the Foley Sports Tourism Complex.
With the win, UTA moves to 11-6 overall on the season, while the Eagles are eliminated from the SBC Tournament and fall to 5-11 on the year.
Brianna Ford led the Maverick attack with 13 kills on the night. She also added 10 digs in the win.
Brooke Townsend added nine kills and a pair of blocks.
Briana Brown and
Simara Peyton chipped in with eight kills each, while
Alli Wells registered 15 digs and seven assists.
Kylee Kapp racked up 15 assists, while
Mollie Blank turned in a 20-20 double-double with 20 assists and 20 digs.
Michaela Wright finished with a match-high six blocks to go with her five kills.
Chamblee Russell led Georgia Southern with 18 kills, while setter Madison Brown recorded a double-double with 38 assists and 13 digs.
The Mavericks hit .278 for the match and held the Eagles to less than a .110 hitting percentage in three of the four sets played. UTA also won the battle of assists (48-47), aces (5-1), blocks (11.5-5), and digs (65-60).
