@UTAMavsWBB Takes Sole Possession Of 3rd Place With Win At Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Marie Benson recorded her seventh double-double (17 points, 14 rebounds) of the season to lead the UTA women's basketball team to a 62-46 win over Little Rock on Saturday afternoon at the Jack Stephens Center.

With the win, the Lady Mavs complete the weekend sweep and improve to 15-10 on the season and 9-4 in conference, while the Trojans fall to 10-14 overall and 8-5 in league play. The win also gives UTA the first season sweep of Little Rock in program history and moves the Lady Mavericks into sole possession of third place in the Sun Belt Conference standings.

M. Benson shot 5-of-13 from the field and 7-of-10 from the charity stripe to finish with her game-high 17 points. The senior's 14 boards, also a game-high, mark the seventh time she has pulled down double digit rebounds. Terryn Milton finished with 11 points, four rebounds and a pair of assists, while Barbara Benson chipped in with 10 points, two rebounds and two assists. Claire Chastain added nine points and five boards and Misty Dossey registered eight points and five rebounds.

The Lady Mavs shot 40+ percent from the field for the third time in the last four outings. UTA knocked down 43.4 percent (23-of-53) of their attempts from the field on the afternoon.

UTA out-rebounded the home team 43-29 and held Little Rock to just 27.1 percent (13-of-48) shooting from the field and 9.1 percent (1-of-11) from behind the arc. The Lady Mavs also turned the Trojans over 16 times and scored 14 points off of those miscues.

The game, which saw 47 fouls called, saw a few technical handed out. In the third quarter, after players were tangled up, Katie Ferrell was issued two technical fouls and was ejected from the game, one of which was a double technical along with Little Rock's Teal Battle.

After the techs, the Trojans used a quick run to cut UTA's lead to four. UTA quickly burned a timeout and responded with a 10-0 run and never looked back. The Lady Mavs pulled away, increased their lead to as many as 18 points and cruised to the 62-46 win.

The Lady Mavericks will be back in action on next Saturday afternoon (Feb. 22), when they host Texas State (9-14, 2-10 SBC) at College Park Center in the second game of a double-header with the UTA men's basketball team. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
