Dear UTA Community...Thank You Letter From Krista Gerlich

8/18/2020 1:50:00 PM

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all who have supported my family and me during the past seven years at UTA. What a ride it has been! When stepping into this role, we knew there was work to be done, but with the support of the administration, the boosters, our fans, our amazing players and the wonderful people of Arlington, we were able to take Lady Mav basketball to a record-breaking, championship level.

The current team, in particular, has accomplished so many firsts, and without their belief and efforts, I would not have the opportunity I have today. Goodbyes are never easy, but to say goodbye to this group is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. To no one's surprise, they have been supportive and understanding through this entire process, and it's been very emotional for all of us. Since taking the coaching position at UTA, the players bought in, invested time, effort, sweat and tears to support the vision we had for Lady Mav basketball. They have battled, fought and walked through numerous trials and tribulations, but through it all, and most importantly, we built authentic and genuine relationships together. These relationships have been built on trust, respect, and a genuine love for one another. I will miss these girls so very much.

My hope for this team is for them to continue to be winners on and off the court, and also be great ambassadors for the University of Texas at Arlington. As a coach, you not only work to prepare student-athletes for competition, but also for the incredibly-difficult game of life. And although success is not a given, the experiences, the challenges, and the strong relationships you build along the way create a foundation for the opportunity to thrive, and these ladies have done just that. These young women and those I have had the privilege of coaching in the last seven years at UTA will always be part of my family and have a very special place in my heart.

I always knew UTA had the potential to become a highly-successful and respected women's basketball program, and these young women have taken this program to new heights. But without the dedication, support and commitment from my staff – all of those who have worked with us the past seven years – this wouldn't have been accomplished. We had a vision, and they all bought in so we could build a championship program at UTA.

Thank You. Thank you for the fun, thank you for the memories and thank you for becoming a part of our family now and forever. I will always be a Lady Mav fan.

Mav Up,
Krista Gerlich
