ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team kicks off their 2021 season with a double-header against No. 25 Arkansas.

After a few schedule changes due to weather, the Mavericks will finally take the field for their season-opener Monday (Feb. 22) against the Razorbacks.

UTA NOTES
  • The Mavericks are coming off an 11 month-long break after the 2020 season was canceled due to Covid-19.
  • After just 25 games played in the 2020 season, the Mavs finished with a 12-13 record while defeating No. 21 Baylor 1-0.
  • The Mavericks took two of the three game series against Troy in the first Sun Belt Conference competition of the year before ending the season with a 5-4 victory over Western Kentucky.
  • UTA ended the season with the second-best fielding percentage (.974) in the Sun Belt while turning two 10 times throughout the shortened season – tied for most double plays in the SBC and 9th in the nation.
  • Junior Kimber Cortemelia led the Mavericks in eight statistical batting categories including home runs (5), batting average (.338), OPS (1.051), RBI (17), total bases (40), slugging percentage (.615), walks (12) and on-base percentage (.436).
 
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT – No. 25 Arkansas
  • Arkansas leads the all-time series 3-5 against UTA. The last time the two teams faced each other was back in 2019 where the Mavs split the double-header coming out with a 7-4 victory.
  • Back in the 2020 shortened season, Arkansas finished with a 19-6 overall record and a 1-2 SEC record.
  • Redshirt senior ace pitcher, Autumn Storms returns for the Razorbacks coming off a 1.16 ERA across 72.2 innings pitched.
  • Redshirt junior Hannah McEwen is on track to becoming the program's all-time leading hitter with a career .371 batting average.
  • The Razorbacks entered the 2021 season in the number 21 spot in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Top 25 poll. Arkansas sits on a 1-2 record in the 2021 season with both losses to No. 8 Oklahoma State 12-11 (Feb. 11) and McNeese 7-4 (Feb. 20).
