WACO, Texas – After dropping both games to No. 25 Arkansas in their season opener Monday (Feb. 22), the UT Arlington softball team will head down south Wednesday (Feb. 24) to Waco, Texas to take on No. 21 Baylor.

SERIES HISTORY
Baylor leads the all-time series 27-52 against the Mavs. Heading into Wednesday's matchup, UTA has collected three notable victories against the ranked Bears. In the 2019 season, the Mavericks came out on top twice in a double-header as part in the Getterman Classic. Those wins ended with a score of 5-2 in game one and a 10-2 run-rule in the game two. In the last matchup between the two teams, the Mavericks defeated the Bears in a close contest ending in a 1-0 victory.
UTA NOTES
- The Mavericks are coming off a tough season opener falling to No. 25 Arkansas Monday (Feb. 22) in both games of the double-header.
- Senior KJ Murphy and sophomore Jadyn Erickson lead the team with a .500 batting average.
- Kimber Cortemelia smacked a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth of game one, making that a total of six hit in her time at UTA.
- Senior catcher Courtney Ogle and sophomore Lindsey Franklin both recorded their first homerun of their careers as a Maverick in game two with Franklin touching all four in her first ever collegiate at-bat.
- Freshman Gracie Bumpurs got her first start in the circle as a Maverick. She powered through five innings in game two allowing three runs on four hits.
- McLennan transfer Sophie Wideman joined by Ogle and Cortemelia, are all tied in leading the team in RBI's (2).
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT- No. 21 Baylor (1-1)
- Back in the shortened 2020 season, Baylor finished with an overall record of 19-5.
- The Bears entered the 2021 season in the number 22 spot in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Top 25 poll.
- Currently, No. 21 Baylor sits on an overall record of 1-1 after beginning season in Lake Charles, LA in the Cowgirl Classic.
- The Bears fell to No. 25 Arkansas (7-2) in game one but then picked up a win against host McNeese State (3-2) which ended in extra innings.
- Aliyah Binford led the Bears going 4-8 over both games while also picking up the win against the Cowgirls, pitching three innings of relief.
- Sixth year Gia Rodoni earned her sixth save of her career in the win against McNeese State. Rodoni is now tied for 8th in program history.
- After tomorrow's contest, UTA will face Baylor again this season in Arlington on Wednesday, April 28 at 6 p.m. at Allan Saxe Field.
ON DECK
UTA will head to San Antonio for the three-day UTSA Classic beginning Feb. 26. The Mavericks are set to face Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, Kansas and host UTSA. The first game is scheduled to begin Friday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi at Roadrunner Field.
