SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team sits on an overall record of 0-3 after dropping both games to No. 25 Arkansas in UTA's season opener (Feb. 22) then falling to No. 21 Baylor (Feb. 24) in Waco, 6-1. The Mavericks will head to San Antonio for the three-day UTSA Classic beginning Friday, Feb. 26.
UTA will commence action with a doubleheader Friday at 1:00 p.m. taking on the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Islanders before taking the field again to face the Kansas Jayhawks at 3:30 p.m.
The Mavs will open Saturday's action with a 10:00 a.m. start against the Islanders before taking to the diamond five hours later to face the host, UTSA, at 3:00 p.m.
UTA will wrap up tournament play Sunday and face Kansas at 10:00 a.m.

- UTA's overall record has dropped to 0-3 after a tough contest (Feb. 24) to No. 21 Baylor, 6-1.
- In the Mavericks' last competition, sophomore Reagan Hukill knocked in UTA's only run of the game against the Bears hitting an RBI-double to score freshman pinch runner Dariane Cram.
- The Mavs held Baylor to a close contest before the Bears added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead 6-1.
- Senior first baseman Aileen Garcia is leading the team with a .400 batting average going 4-10 over the three games.
- Sophie Wideman, Courtney Ogle and Kimber Cortemelia are tied for most RBI's (2) this season.
- Freshman Gracie Bumpurs leads the pitching staff with eight innings pitched on the mound with two starts on the season.
- In the three games this season, UTA has utilized five arms in the circle across 21 total innings pitched.
- The Mavericks look for their first win this 2021 season in the UTSA Classic this weekend.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT- Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (4-2)
- After opening up their season in the Scrap Yard Blizzard Challenge in Conroe, Texas, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi finished the weekend 2-2.
- The Islanders fell to No. 10 Oklahoma State twice that weekend, 11-1 and 11-0 but picked up two wins against Tarleton State (13-3) and Wichita State (5-1).
- Coming off a doubleheader Wednesday (Feb. 24) against Texas Southern, the Islanders topped the Tigers both games, 5-3 and 7-1.
- Sophomore Jenika Lombrana leads the rotation with 24 strikeouts over 17.1 innings pitched with a 2.42 ERA.
- Coming in right behind Lombrana, sophomore Beatriz Lara has 12 innings pitched this season with a 1.17 ERA.
- Sophomore infielder Ashleigh Sgambelluri leads the Islanders with a .400 batting average going 6-15 over the course of six games.
- Sammi Thomas leads A&M – Corpus Christi in RBI's (4) with a .647 slugging percentage. Over six games, Thomas has a .353 batting average.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT- Kansas (1-3)
- Kansas opened their season in Baton Rouge, LA at the LSU Tournament finishing the weekend 1-3.
- The Jayhawks are coming off three losses to McNeese State twice and host, No. 11 LSU. Kansas put up a close contest in both games of the doubleheader (Feb. 12) against McNeese, 8-9 and 5-6. LSU topped Kansas with a final score of 3-5 ending Saturday play. A walk-off home run from the Cowgirls in the bottom of the seventh ended the game.
- The only win the Jayhawks recorded was against Central Arkansas (Feb. 13), 4-2.
- Redshirt junior catcher Shelby Gayre recorded her first home run of the season- a grand slam against McNeese State in game one- which added to her total number of career home runs (21).
- Gayre leads the Jayhawks in RBI's (6) while touching base 13 times over 15 at-bats.
- Shortstop Sydnee Ramsey is leading the team with a .429 batting average going 6-14 over the course of four games.
- Tatum Goff and Hailey Reed both share 9 innings pitched in the circle this season while Goff leads the rotation with 11 strikeouts.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT- UTSA (2-0)
- UTSA enters the 2021 season with a 2-0 overall record after sweeping Lamar in a doubleheader (Feb. 13).
- The Roadrunners topped Lamar twice, 7-1 and 11-2. Game two of the doubleheader ended in just five innings.
- The Bearkat Classic (Feb. 20-21) was cancelled due to inclement weather.
- Freshman infielder Kat Ibarra is leading UTSA with a .833 batting average over the two games going 5-6.
- Junior Riley Grunberg sits on a .714 batting average while knocking in 7 RBI's this season.
- Clarissa Hernandez leads the pitching staff with seven innings pitched, eight strikeouts and a 1.29 ERA.
