ARLINGTON, Texas – Freshman
Cason Gregory hit a walk-off RBI single to center field to lift the UT Arlington baseball team over the Baylor Bears in the 11
th inning at Clay Gould Ballpark on Tuesday night. The Mavericks improve to 8-11 with the win while the Bears fall to 13-7.

The Bears entered the game with the third best batting average in the country at .332, and second most hits, averaging over 11 per game. The Mavericks held Baylor to a .200 average on the night and 8 hits in 11 innings.

Cade Winquest started on the mound and tossed a career-high 6.0 innings. He fanned six batters, while allowing just three hits and two runs.Â
Matt Novis (1.0 IP),
Tristan Tom (1.0 IP),
Riley Bost (1.0 IP) and
Logan Austin (2.0 IP) pitched in relief. Austin (W, 1-0) picked up the win for the Mavericks.

The Mavericks finished with 11 hits on the day with
JD Wadleigh,
Tommy Williams,
Cason Gregory, and
Connor Aube each having a multi-hit day.
Boone Montgomery led the Mavericks with two RBI.
Dylan Paul drove in one with a solo home run, while Gregory's RBI was the game winner.

The Bears jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the third inning. With runners on first and second coming from a walk and a single, a hard-hit ball past third base allowed the first run to score.

Baylor extended their lead to two runs in the sixth inning. Two walks put runners at first and second before a line drive to right center drove in one run.

The Mavericks got one run back in the bottom half of the inning coming off the bat of
Dylan Paul as he hit a solo home run to right field.

Josh Minjarez reached base as the leadoff batter in the seventh with a walk before getting pushed to second by a push bunt from
Tommy Williams. They were both advanced from a sacrifice bunt from
Sam Gotlieb before being brought home with a single to right center from Montgomery, giving the Mavericks the 3-2 lead. The two runs were the first seventh inning runs the Mavs have scored this year.

The lead was short-lived, however, as the Bears loaded the bases and used a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

The Mavericks kept the Bears off the board for the next three innings allowing a chance to win the game in the bottom of the 11
th. Following back-to-back outs to start the inning, Williams and Gotlieb both hit singles through the 5-6 gap. With a 3-2 count,
Cason Gregory hit a line drive to shallow center field to drive in Williams and win the game for the Mavericks, 4-3.

The Mavericks will travel to Houston this weekend for a four-game series against the Cougars beginning at 6:30 pm on Friday.
