NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team (4-17) is coming off a 1-3 weekend of Sun Belt Conference play as the Mavericks took game two of the three-game series from No. 15 Louisiana.
UTA defeated the Ragin' Cajuns 8-3 Saturday at Allan Saxe Field courtesy of stellar performances in the circle, solid defense and strong efforts at the plate that led to the Mavs' first conference win this season.

UTA NOTES
- The Mavericks topped No. 15 Louisiana in game two of the series over the weekend giving the Cajun's their first conference loss.
- Senior third baseman KJ Murphy leads the Mavs with a .361 average at the plate with 2 home runs, 6 doubles, 8 walks and a .557 slugging percentage.
- The Baytown, Texas native has notched at least one hit in the last seven games this season and has started in all 21 games for the Mavericks.
- Freshman infielder Jessica Carreon is 2-3 in stolen base attempts and has tallied 8 walks this season.
- The College Station product is batting .298 at the plate with a .411 on-base percentage.
- In the circle, sophomore right hander Kenedy Hines leads the rotation with 35.1 innings pitched and 16 strike outs while junior Allie Gardiner follows closely with 31.1 innings pitched.
- The strong performances in the circle from senior Jojo Valencia and Gardiner Saturday, led to the big 8-3 victory over Louisiana limiting the Cajuns to just three runs.

- The last matchup between the Ladyjacks and the Mavericks was back in the shortened 2020 season where UTA topped SFA 11-3 (5 innings) at Allan Saxe Field.
- SFA is coming off a weekend sweep of the three-game conference series against Nicholls that improved their Southland record of 6-0 and an overall record of 13-8.
- Sophomore infielder Shaylon Govan leads the Ladyjacks with a .475 batting average on the season with 23 RBI's, 6 home runs, 15 walks and a .584 on-base percentage.
