Softball Travels to Austin for Bevo Classic

AUSTIN, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team (4-18) is coming off a 2-0 midweek loss at Stephen F. Austin Wednesday (Mar. 24). The Mavericks will head to Austin to face UTSA (5-13), South Dakota (4-20) and the host, No. 10 Texas (20-3) for the three-day Bevo Classic beginning Friday, Mar. 26 at Red & Charline McCombs Field.

UTA will commence tournament action Friday at 6:00 p.m. as they take on UTSA for the second time this season.

The Mavs will open Saturday's play with an 11:00 a.m. start against the host, Texas before taking to the diamond five hours later to face South Dakota at 4:00 p.m.

UTA will wrap up tournament play Sunday with a doubleheader against South Dakota at 10:00 a.m. followed by Texas at 12:30 p.m.

UTA NOTES
  • The Mavericks have had a tough 2021 season so far as they sit on an overall record of 4-18 and 1-5 in Sun Belt Conference play.
  • Senior KJ Murphy continues to lead UTA with a .349 average at the plate across all 22 games started and has recorded at least one hit in the last 8 contests.
  • The third baseman's bat has been extremely valuable in the lineup as she has smacked 6 doubles, 2 home runs, 9 RBI's and 9 walks with a .540 on-base percentage.
  • Freshman second baseman Jessica Carreon has showcased her speed in the box with a .300 average and is 2-3 in stolen base attempts.
  • Sophomore right hander Kenedy Hines (1-8) leads the UTA pitching staff in the circle with 38.2 innings pitched with 16 strike outs while junior Allie Gardiner (2-2) follows behind Hines with 31.1 innings thrown.
 
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT- UTSA (5-13)
  • UTSA is coming off a 0-5 weekend in the Mizuno Classic in Stillwater, OK where they lost to Wichita State twice, Kansas City twice and No. 9 Oklahoma State once.
  • UTA took part in the UTSA Classic (Feb. 26-28) earlier this season as the Roadrunners topped the Mavericks 9-1.
  • Celeste Loughman has started in all 18 games for the Roadrunners and has a .340 batting average on the season.
  • Loughman has tallied 3 doubles, 3 triples, 1 home run and is 6-6 in stolen base attempts.
  • Brittany Coe is 16-39 (.410) at the plate across 14 games appeared in while collecting 4 home runs and a .769 slugging percentage.
  • Pitcher Jamie Gilbert (1-3) leads the pitching staff with an ERA of 3.00 and 13 strike outs across 18.2 innings pitched.
  • Clarissa Hernandez (1-2) paces UTSA on the mound with 27.2 innings pitched and 30 strike outs this season.

  • The Coyotes are coming off a tough weekend in Lawrence, KS as they went 0-5 in the Kansas Tournament where they took two losses from Tulsa and Kansas and one loss from North Dakota State.
  • Senior Lauren Wobken has started in all 24 games for South Dakota with a .289 batting average.
  • The infielder has notched 4 doubles and tallied 16 RBI's while slugging .342.
  • Following closely behind Wobken is fellow senior Lauren Eamiguel who has started in 23 out of 24 games for the Coyotes with a .250 average at the plate.
  • The infielder has recorded 15 RBI's and 6 doubles with 3 stolen bases on the season.
  • South Dakota's ace in the circle, Sarah Lisko (2-7), has thrown 73.2 innings this season and 30 strike outs.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT- No. 10 Texas (20-3)
  • The Longhorns are coming off a three-game sweep over New Mexico (Mar. 19-20).
  • Texas has had an impressive start on the season as they took losses from LSU twice and Louisiana once.
  • Junior infielder Janae Jefferson is 31-65 at the plate (.477) across 20 games played this season with a .528 on-base percentage.
  • Senior outfielder Shannon Rhodes has a .359 batting average and leads Texas with 29 RBI's.
  • Rhodes has notched 9 home runs, 4 doubles and is slugging .875 so far this year.
  • In the circle, sophomore Shea O'Leary (3-0) leads the rotation for the Longhorns with a 1.78 ERA and has thrown 43.1 innings while fellow pitcher Molly Jacobsen (7-2) has pitched 36.1 innings and walked just 3 batters over 145 at-bats.
