Mavericks Record 15 Hits To Clinch Series Over A-State

JONESBORO, Ark. – Five Mavericks finished with a multi-hit game for the UT Arlington baseball team (16-18, 7-4 Sun Belt) in a 9-2 win over Arkansas State (9-19, 4-7 Sun Belt) on Saturday night at Tomlinson Stadium-Kell Field. With the win, the Mavericks clinched their third straight conference series.

Kody Bullard (W, 6-2) picked up the start, tossing 6.0 innings in the win. The lefty struck out eight batters and allowed just two runs off four hits. Logan Austin threw one inning of relief, allowing one hit and one strikeout.  Tanner King finished out the game, throwing two shutout innings and striking out four batters.

The Mavericks finished with 15 hits on the day – the second highest mark on the season.  Josh Minjarez (3), Boone Montgomery (2), Connor Aube (2), Dylan Paul (2), and Andrew Miller (2) each finished with a multi-hit day.  Minjarez also led the Mavs with three RBI coming off two home runs – his second multi-home run game of the season.  Paul ended the day with two RBI, while Aube, Miller and Cason Gregory each drove in one.
With two outs in the second, the Mavericks were able to put up one run.  Anthony Dominguez and Phillip Childs both reached bases from singles.  Cason Gregory worked a full count before hitting a ball past the second baseman to score Dominguez.

The Red Wolves answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the second, using two singles to drive in the tying run.

The Mavericks went back to work in the third inning.  Montgomery led off the inning with a walk and stole second before Dylan Paul drove him in with a double off the right field wall.  Two batters later, Andrew Miller drove in Paul with a single to left field to give the Mavericks a two-run lead.

A-State got one back in the fourth inning, knocking a solo shot to left field to make it a 3-2 game.

Josh Minjarez connected on the first pitch of the sixth inning to hit a solo home run over the left field wall. Boone Montgomery drove in the second run of the inning with a single to left field due to Cason Gregory hustling from first base.

On his next at bat in the following inning, Minjarez connected on his second deep shot of the game, this time driving in two runs to extend the Maverick lead to five runs.

Wadleigh and Montgomery reached base in the 8th due to Red Wolves mishaps.  Aube took advantage of Wadleigh standing on second, hitting a single to left to push him home. With runners still at first and second, Paul drove in his second RBI of the game with a single up the middle to put the Mavericks up 9-2.
