Mavs Set For Sun Belt Tournament

TROY, Ala. – Coming off a series loss at Texas State that wrapped up regular season play, the UT Arlington softball team is set to compete in the Sun Belt Conference Championship starting Wednesday, May 12 at 3 p.m. against the #3 seed, Troy.

UTA NOTES
  • The Mavericks were selected to the No. 6 seed in the Sun Belt Conference Championship with an overall record of 16-32 and 9-14 in conference play.
  • UTA picked up three series wins this season over ULM, Georgia State and Appalachian State.
  • Senior KJ Murphy was the lone Mav that was named to the All-Sun Belt First Team as the third baseman sits in second place with a .420 batting average and first with a .488 on-base percentage.
  • In Sun Belt play alone, the Baytown, Texas native has put up impressive numbers leading in batting average (.478), slugging percentage (.754) and on-base percentage (.526).
  • Nationally, Murphy is ranked 59th in batting average (.420) and 28th in hits (60) while junior right-handed pitcher Allie Gardiner has the second-highest amount of saves in the Sun Belt (4) while ranked eighth nationally.
  • As a team, the Mavericks are ranked fourth in the conference with a .966 fielding percentage.

  • Troy finished the season with a 34-13 overall record and 17-6 in conference play. The series earlier in the season between the Trojans and the Mavs went in favor of the Trojans as Troy swept UTA in Arlington.
  • Troy sits in the #2 spot in the Sun Belt Standings with a .291 team batting average. With a total of 89 doubles on the season, that number puts them in the #3 spot nationally.
  • The Trojans are ranked #2 in ERA (2.11) and fielding percentage (.968).
