MONROE, La. –
Anthony Dominguez knocked in a season-high three runs as the UT Arlington baseball team (23-23, 11-5 Sun Belt) took the first game of a three-game series against ULM (20-22, 7-12 Sun Belt).
Carlos Tavera (W, 2-4) started for the Mavericks, tossing 6.0 innings in the win. He allowed just one run off two hits.
Tanner King threw 2.0 shutout innings, striking out two batters and allowing one hit.
Logan Austin threw the final shutout inning.
UTA finished with nine hits led by the three hits from
Andrew Miller and
Anthony Dominguez. Dominguez led the Mavericks with three RBI as well.
Connor Aube,
Josh Minjarez and
JD Wadleigh each finished with one RBI.
After a scoreless first inning,
Andrew Miller led off the second with a line drive that found the corner of left field for a standup double.
Anthony Dominguez followed by taking a 1-0 pitch deep to right field for his second home run of the season.
Miller started off the fourth inning by reaching base again, this time with a single to center field. Miller was brought home by a double off the bat of
JD Wadleigh to push the score to 3-0.
The Warhawks got one back in the fourth inning. The first two batters reached base, coming off a hit and walk. The hit was the first given up by Tavera in 15 innings. ULM pushed the baserunners to second and third with a sacrifice bunt and score off a ground-out to second.
The Mavericks loaded the bases in the seventh inning using two singles and a walk. Dominguez came away with his third RBI of the game with an RBI single through the right side of the infield.
Josh Minjarez followed with a sacrifice fly to centerfield to increase the Maverick lead to 5-1.
The first two batters reached base off walks in the 8
th inning for the Mavericks. After advancing to second and third from a wild pitch,
Connor Aube pushed home the sixth run of the day for the Mavericks with his NCAA leading 8
th sacrifice fly of the season.

The Mavericks will look to capture their fifth consecutive Sun Belt Conference series tomorrow at 2 pm against the Warhawks. Due to forecasted rain on Sunday, UTA and ULM will now play a doubleheader tomorrow (May 8) to finish the series.
