TOURNAMENT HISTORY
The 2020 Lone Star Invitational was canceled due to COVID-19, but the last time it was contested in 2019 UTA was declared co-champions along with Houston and South Alabama. All three teams recorded identical 54-hole 873 (+9) totals, prompting a playoff to determine which team would receive the winner's trophy. USA won the playoff and claimed the victory trophy; however, all three teams were officially declared as co-champions.
Â
UTA also won the invite in 2010 – the second year it was contested – with an 855 (-9) total. That was seven shots clear of runner-up Notre Dame and eight ahead of 3rd-place North Texas.
Â
INSIDE THE LINEUP
UTA continues its stretch of playing four-straight weeks to open the 2021-22 season when the Mavs head to Colorado's Mark Simpson Invitational outside Boulder next Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 27-28.

ABOUT TEXAS RANGERS GOLF CLUB
Opened in February of 2019, the state-of-the-art Texas Rangers Golf Club is the new home of UTA's men's and women's golf programs. The world's only Major League Baseball-branded golf course, TRGC is the result of a $24 million renovation and updated routing of the former Chester W. Ditto Golf Course.

INSIDE THE LINEUP
- Gonzalez led the Mavs last week with a -3 performance to finish T-11 at Squire Creek Country Club. After opening with a 2-over 74, he rebounded with consecutive under-par rounds of 68 and 71. Gonzalez took advantage of the par 5s, playing the 12 opportunities he had over the 54 holes in a blistering 4.25 (-9) to tie for 2nd in the field in that category. In 2019 at the Lone Star Invitational, Gonzalez posted a 3rd-place finish with a 6-under 210.
 - Hicks tied for 13th at the Lone Star two years ago at +4. The 2021 U.S. Amateur Round of 64 participant is coming off a T-40 and +3 finish at the Jim Rivers. Hicks tied for 3rd in the field of 119 last week in par-4 scoring average at 3.93 (-2), and he led UTA with 13 birdies.
 - Cronje is the only other Mav in the lineup this week with experience at the Lone Star Invite as he tied for 26th at +9 as a freshman. After opening his season with an even-par 72 last Sunday, he closed with rounds of 77 and 75 to tie for 66th at +8.
 - A transfer from North Texas, Miya cracks the team lineup for the second time in as many tries with UTA. He'll be looking to improve upon a +12 (T-91) showing last week.
 - Steinarsson led UTA in the opening round last Sunday with the team's only under-par round of the day (71), but closed with rounds of 74 and 75 to finish T-49 (+5).
 - While he was not at Squire Creek with the team lineup last week to start the season, Menacho was one of three Mavs who competed as individuals at Texas Wesleyan's Texas Intercollegiate at Hawks Creek outside Fort Worth. There, he carded rounds of 75-72-79 on the par-72 layout to finish at +10 (T-31).
UTA continues its stretch of playing four-straight weeks to open the 2021-22 season when the Mavs head to Colorado's Mark Simpson Invitational outside Boulder next Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 27-28.
